Our Church History
The earliest beginnings of a church in Trinity was in 1894. However, this effort lasted only 16 years before disbanding and giving the proceeds of the sale to the Children’s Home.
Early in 1945, another effort was begun as a few Christians met in the home of T.J. Adcock and shared a common concern for a local Baptist church. In April of 1945, Bellview Baptist Church voted to extend an arm to this group to receive and baptize members into their fellowship until the establishment of a church. In June of 1946, Bellview Baptist Church, assisted by First Baptist of Decatur, Southside Baptist, Pleasant Hill Baptist, Central Baptist, and Fairview Baptist met to help organize Trinity Baptist Church with 39 members.
First meeting in the old Trinity school, then in a store building, and then in a newly erected concrete block church building in downtown Trinity, the church impacted the community with the gospel, baptizing and adding many believers to its membership.
As the church continued to grow throughout the fifties and sixties, it purchased property on Highway 24 (now Old Highway 24) and a new church building was completed in July of 1965. Continued growth led the church to add an education building in 1972 and a gym with a kitchen and additional education space in 1988. Finally, after the addition of a second Sunday morning worship service to provide for increasing numbers, a new building with a larger auditorium and children’s ministry area was completed in 2004.
Trinity Baptist Church’s history is marked by numerous lives transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ, the service of many faithful members, pastors, and staff, and over seventy years of gospel impact in this local community and beyond. While the church has faced a variety of challenges along the way, God’s goodness, protection, guidance, and work continues to be made evident. Trinity Baptist Church’s commitment to advance the gospel and make disciples of Jesus Christ remains the same as that prayed for many years ago in the home of T.J. Adcock.
